Hi there Jewish friends! I am not Jewish, but I am a midwife and just delivered a baby to a family in a Chabad community. I understood many of the rituals but there was one ritual I did not know the background of. The father could not take the baby from the mother- he could only take the baby from the mother so long as she passed baby through our arms (the midwives) or she would put the baby on the bed and then he would come pick him up. Could someone tell me about this tradition?
