A Samaritan sefer Torah is written in Paleo Hebrew whereas ours is written in Aramaic script. They claim that Ezra HaSofer instituted the change in script, is there truth to this? If yes, what gave Ezra the authority to change what HaShem gave to us/commanded us to do, if no, isn’t Paleo Hebrew the oldest written form of Hebrew, how can one reconcile this? Any thoughts would be appreciated
