Orthodox Jews: How do you understand the saying, "There is only blessing in things that are hidden"?

Some people use this as a reason not to tell anybody about how their shidduch is going, while some traditional interpretations take a more practical perspective somewhat akin to “Don’t count your chickens before they’ve hatched.”

What do you think?
