I think at the root of some of my struggle with Judaism is the concept of “obligation.” I think it is a really easy to misuse it and result in oppressive or abusive systems. Two questions: 1. for those who are practicing how do you reconcile your obligations with your own sense of self (I’m particularly interested to hear from women) and 2. are there any recommendations for texts that directly address obligation in Judaism.
