Non-Jew here, how common is it for members of one denomination to practice a different denomination later in life?

For example are there many conservative Jews that become reform Jews? How commonly do people start out raised ultra orthodox and then join a more mainstream orthodox or a non orthodox community? Is this phenomenon common enough that it has any cultural relevancy (eg there is a term for it and discourse around it)
