My workplace surprised me in a really great way

I just wanted to share some happy news. My workplace has floating holidays because the nature of the work requires staff to be onsite 365 days a year. So for example, if the forth of July falls on a day that you are working you get to take off a different day paid within a certain time frame.

I let some of the staff above me know I would using my labor day to have the first day of Rosh Hashanah off (the only day I would need off as all other services fall on my “weekends”) and I was told that I wasn’t allowed to do that… because I already got that off as a paid holiday since I’m Jewish. I was told to inform my manager and double check that payroll had the correct date and that’s it. I still get Christmas and Easter off too.

As far as I know I’m the only practicing Jew at the company and it’s not even in a heavily Jewish area. I’m positively estatic to have a workplace just give me this without even asking. I’ve never had a job be anywhere near this accommodating of cultural differences!!
