So I found out recently through a DNA test that I’m not ethnically Jewish. So I called my grandparents to ask what’s up with that, as my mother has always told me we’re Jewish and I was raised Jewish. It turns out my mother is a compulsive liar and they just went along with it. I had my bat mitzvah, and I attend service semi-regularly, stick to kosher foods, and actively practice the religion because its how I was raised and it’s what I believe. My legal first name is even a Hebrew name.
But now I’m not sure if I should continue to be so active in the community since I feel like an interloper taking part in something that I have no place in, since according to my genetics I’m not Jewish.
I’m having a bit of an identity crisis at the moment because of it. Any advice is appreciated.
