My Mezuzah scroll got crushed in a garbage compactor. What should I do?

I never owned a Mezuzah before and my Rabbi gifted me one. I didn’t have a case, so I left the scroll on my piano in wrapping until I could get one. While I was away, a family member showed up and surprised cleaned the apartment. The scroll is missing and the maintenance crew said anything thrown away is immediately compacted by an industrial compactor.

I don’t know what to do or how to repent. It was my first Mezuzah and now its in a landfill. What do I do?
