My Jewish friend told me Mizrahi Jews are just Muslims who pretended to be Jewish so they could live in Israel

Is there any truth to this? He said Jewish communities in the middle east went extinct thousands of years ago and that Ashkenazi Jews are the only ones who actually kept the Jewish religion while Mizrahi Jews are just Muslims
