My family does not respect my life decisions.

A little background about my family: I come from a very Catholic family that thinks that if you’re not a Christian, you’re going to hell. Since I was little, I have had different beliefs than my family. I am a descendant of Sephardic Jews (like most of my family), but they ignore that part of our family history/lineage. My family mixed with the Portuguese and native Americans, so our Jewishness was left in the past. But I want to bring that part of my family back. Learning about Judaism and being around other Jews makes me feel more welcoming and a sense of belonging, something that I never felt being raised Catholic. I have told my mother that I’m more interested in my Jewishness than being Catholic, but my family does not respect my religious and cultural changes. I appreciate all religions, but I wish my family would accept that everyone is different and that we have to respect everyone for who they are. I have decided to distance myself a little from my family to give myself time to accept the fact that they will never change. Does anyone have any thoughts on what I should do? Has anyone had similar situation?
