My Dear Friend’s Dad is seriously ill in Israel. What is the appropriate way to ask for prayers from the local shul?

Hello/Shalom. u/SaltyPretzelFist referred me here from the chatroom. I’m Muslim and have a Jewish friend whose dad had an operation and is still really ill back in Israel. At this point, all I can offer is “thoughts and prayers” and those are going in full force: I’ve enlisted Protestant and Catholic friends too, with the permission of my friend. How can I enlist Jewish prayers for my friend’s 85 yr old Dad? Or is this inappropriate? I’m afraid that if I call the local shul, they might think I’m a troll. Despite my username, I’m a woman, if it makes any difference. Thanks so much: toda raba. A belated Happy Purim, (or Happy Purim if you live in Jerusalem!)
