My seven year old daughter learned about Hanukkah in school and came home asking if we could celebrate it. I have always encouraged learning about and respecting other religions and am all for it as an opportunity to learn, but I am concerned about how appropriate it is. Through genealogy and DNA testing I’ve found out that my family has a (very) small amount of Jewish heritage from my dad’s side. I was happy to discover this, but we religiously aren’t Jewish and by anyone’s standards aren’t ethically Jewish either.
My intention is to be respectful. I know in other religions it is not appropriate to participate in certain parts of worship if you are not a member of that religion.
Is it okay for my family to celebrate Hanukkah?
