The way i understand it, is that G-d punishes him for striking a rock to make it give water, rather than commanding the rock to give water, as G-d had commanded him to do.
So was Moses punished just for not obeying G-ds commandments exactly in this instance or is there more to this.
I always thought that the punishment was for once denying he was a hebrew when he was in Egypt. I thought i remembered that from cheder but i must have gotten that completely wrong
I’m guessing for not obeying G-d exactly but then how does this fit in with interpreting or reinterpreting the Torah ?
I’ve also read that striking the rock is similar to a few local/regional pagan myths so would be bad too
