Mi Shebeirach for illnesses during pandemic?

Hi all, please let me know if this is the wrong place to ask this.

My mother has symptoms of COVID-19. She’s waiting on test results to know whether she has it. She isn’t in a very high risk group…but also not the lowest risk. She is okay, self-quarantining and riding it out at home, but needless to say I’m still anxious.

My question is this: I have heard the Mi Shebeirach is only suitable for serious illnesses, i.e. those that could realistically be fatal. E.g. I have never said it for a someone who was suffering from a cold or a stomach bug, only those battling cancer, in the hospital etc. Does anyone have any perspective on whether this would meet the bar? Heaven forbid I should attract the evil eye by implying she’s sicker than she is. On the other hand, we don’t know yet really what the risks of this virus are in all cases.

For what it’s worth, all the synagogues in my city are shut down and offering only streaming services, which I plan to connect to tomorrow morning. So there would not be a concern of wasting the congregation’s time.

Anyone else in the same or similar boat? How are you handling it?
