I’m reading the abovementioned book for a graduate level course and I’m wondering if others have read it. If so, what were your thoughts? I want to know if I’m being overly sensitive to the text.
His analysis of American Judaism as monoculturally European (without interrogating that conception) feels weird–not to mention reductive and erasing of Sephardim/Black, Asian, and Latino Jews–but also somewhat antagonistic. He also seems to give us the same ethnonational framework as German, Irish, Italian and other Euro-Americans.
