looking for an intro to Kabbalah thats not too academic and not too new agey

hey guys. I’m a 33 year old Baha’i ; my best friend of 28(!) years is Jewish. He lost his father last year, and had his first little baby this year. He’s not spending much time on any kind of religious practice (career etc), but is open minded and seeking. Super great dude.

can anyone recommend a good intro book to Kabbalah or Jewish mystical practice thats not too academic or historical, but rather practical, helping noobs to apply such beautiful spiritual practices? Ideally something not too new-agey either, but rather rooted in actual scripture?

hope a book like this exists! thanks dear friends, peace and blessings be upon each of you : )
