Hey, I wanted to share with you my new blog, “Dear Saba: and tales of the wandering Jew.” Through a series of letters addressed to my סָבָּא (sah-buh), my grandfather, I explore the concept of the wandering Jew in a modern context, reflecting on my own life and experiences as a Jew in today’s world. My grandfather survived the Holocaust and his incredible resilience has left an indelible mark on my life.
In my first post, I dive into the etymology of “wanderlust,” connecting it to the medieval myth of the Wandering Jew, and discuss how our family’s history of forced wandering has shaped my own desires and identity. I share stories of my grandfather’s struggles, his resilience, and the many sacrifices he made for the sake of his future generations.
Through my blog, I hope to create a space where we can discuss the unique and shared experiences of Jews around the world, and celebrate the love, strength, and wisdom passed down through generations. I’m eager to hear your thoughts and stories too!
