Judaism requires you to bury your dead in Israel – but Israel is NOT just a graveyard

Rant mode: On. This isn’t an original rant but it’s one I feel deeply connected to and I have my reasons for wanting to get this off my chest.

Americans (in particular but not exclusively) will bury their dead relatives in eretz Yisrael but they will refuse to live here.

This land is not just soil for planting the dead. This soil is drenched in the blood of those who fought so that we could live here and with the blood of those murdered because they chose to live here.

To consider Israel nothing but a graveyard for your dying relatives is an insult and, while I don’t want them to stop bringing their dead here, I want them to be aware that they are deeply offensive.
