Joining the religion as a atheist-raised Jew?

My mother is Jewish but chose in her teens to be an atheist; both of my Jewish maternal grandparents died when I was a young child, and I only learned that my mother is Jewish in my later childhood. This heritage never played a part in our family life.

Now, as an adult, I have been casually studying about Judaism and I think I would like to enter the religion. It seems like it’s a very complicated process, and I live in a pretty geographically isolated place so there is no authority to consult nearby. I was wondering if the process for a Jewish person raised outside of Judaism, would be the same as for anyone entering the religion? And if anyone can point me to any resources I can access online to learn more?

Thank you so much 🙂
