Jewish Conversions (historically)

Hope you all are well!

I have been doing some research and was hoping to gain some insight. Checking out various genealogical databases, both generic and Jewish, I noticed that some families were listed on the Jewish database, but on the regular one there were a lot of Lutheran records. For context, this was 17th century Germany.

Do you know if this was perhaps a period of forced conversion or possibly attempts at assimilation? I do know that Luther was strongly antisemitic and such sadly.

Thanks for any info!
