Jew/Jewish person

I’m not Jewish but I do have a question about this. I’ve noticed it’s reasonably common for people here to refer to themselves as a Jew while I, as a non-Jew, have always been told to say Jewish person.

I understand groups can use names for themselves while prohibiting outsiders from doing so, such as the n-word. In a similar manner, I would rather use a term that is more appropriate or more acceptable for an outsider.

I know that this will surely be a person by person thing, but I would like to get some feedback on what the community in general feels and thinks.

Have a great day!
