Hello all. So I was talking to a non-Jewish friend about an issue with my landlord, and my friend said,
“Don’t worry, it’s ok, your landlord’s a goy, you don’t have to be really nice to him or anything, right?”
I was a bit taken aback and asked for clarification, and he said something to the effect of (I don’t remember exact words): “well, you know, he’s not one of your people, so you can just sort of do what you want” (meaning, forget ethics because my landlord’s not Jewish)
Is it strange that I’m bothered by this? Is this some weird antisemitic trope I’ve never encountered? I just told him that I’m not a jerk and I treat people kindly no matter whether they’re Jewish or not…and I couldn’t tell if he was joking.
Do I confront him (kindly, I mean) about it?
