Is it possible that Adam and Eve were not the first biological humans but the first humans to have souls, and therefore the first to be created in the image of G-d?

I’ve been trying to figure out how Adam and Eve fit into the scientific theory of evolution as well as how they reproduced without incest. My best theory, although it could very well be wrong, would be that there were humans, biological/physical human beings before Adam and Eve, that G-d had evolve from other species. Could it be that Adam and Eve were the first humans to have human souls? and that they reproduced with the other humans who had only animal souls? I really don’t know, but I’m not sure how else it would work.
