Is it a good idea to become Lubavitch?

When I became ba’al teshuvah I decided to be modern orthodox but recently I have been considering becoming Chabad. I am drawn to the charisma that Schneerson had and his wisdom in the torah has provided me with so much insight and renewed faith, I also love the Ba’al Shem Tov’s theology and my family were all hasidim before the war so Chabad also brings a sense of familiarity and nostalgia that my secular upbringing deprived me of. But on the flip side I am apprehensive of the veneration that surrounds the rebbe and I find the concept of him as moschiach very strange, I have even met a rabbi who believed Schneerson to be an earthly incarnation of Hashem and regarded him as a physical embodiment of the Shekhinah . How prevalent are these ideologies in Chabad and what are the pros and cons of joining?
