Is a circumcision REALLY necessary to convert?

I’ve been talking to my local rabbi about converting and I’m quite far along the process but the thought of losing my foreskin freaks me out. As in the Panic attacks and night terrors kind of freaks me out. I recognize the bris’ importance in my faith but I’m not sure if I can bare it mentally and/or physically. Should I just give up in my faith? The thought of giving up feels me with unspeakable grief but I just don’t think I can do it…
