Personally, I’m an Atheist and an Ethnic Jew, but growing up I’m raised in an interfaith household where we celebrated both Christmas and Hanukkah. Being atheistic, I’ve never latched onto the idea of either, but I’ve always enjoyed the holidays as the one time that brings me joy. I don’t see any religious significance, but I celebrate most because they are meaningful to me and my family. I’ve known a couple of practicing Jews who have given me crap for celebrating Jewish holidays because they see me as a “fake” Jew exploiting culture, but with Passover and Easter coming up, I’m wondering if, in a Jewish opinion, it is fine for me to celebrate both. Another question I suppose would be whether it is alright for practicing Jews to do so if one is more ceremonial and the other is strictly religious?
