I’ve been recently trying to find any sort of ancient Jewish art, whether that is architecture, mosaic, etc. Any sort of common artistic motifs or anything from our culture and I’ve been disappointed in my inability to find anything on the subject. I feel like having one of the oldest cultures in the world, we should be bound to have something. Even something small like the Greek fret design or something. The Star of David is pretty modern and the Menorah is like our only long term symbol but even that is from ~100 B.C.E.
I was hoping anyone might be able to help me or who I might even want to talk to about that. Would that be Jewish Studies? Middle Eastern Studies? Art History?
Additionally, I have also looked for any sort of distinct animals or beasts we might have in legends but haven’t really found any.
