I think I really messed up my first time at synagogue.

I recently found out my great-grandmother was Jewish and have been trying to get more into my Judaism, so I figured I’d try to go to a shabbat service for the first time.

I totally forgot to ask this subreddit for advice about what I should do when I get there. Luckily I knew to wear a skirt and cover my shoulders, but when the rabbi walked past me, I just punched him. I can’t even explain it. No one told me not to, and I’ve never been to a shabbat service before, so I thought maybe it’d be fine? But he seemed really offended, like I shouldn’t have punched him. AITA? The other congregants were treating me really coldly afterwards, and then some weird things happened, like this one song they were singing that went like “lecha dodi likrat kallah hey why hasn’t security removed that woman who punched the rabbi pnei shabbat nkabelah,” has anyone heard of that one? Then someone told me I was facing the wrong way during the bo’i kallah part, UGH.

Anyway, I got out of there as soon as I could get my free little cup of wine. Does anyone have any advice for what I should do now? Is there any hope for me? I can’t believe I punched the rabbi. It seems like the only thing that’s going right lately is the really cute new trashcan I just ordered for my kitchen.
