I read David Benatar’s book "Better Never to Have Been", there’s a quote he claims as Jewish sayings. Is it true?

“Life is so terrible, it would have been better not to have been born. Who is so lucky? Not one in a hundred thousand!”

From where does it originate? Is it Yiddish saying that usually says something harsh (read: too honest) or edgy?
