I need to get something off my chest and share it with someone but it’s too long for a title so I’ll type it in a comment.

I’m sorry if this post is not allowed. If it is, please let me know and I’ll take it down, but I don’t know where else to post this where people might really understand.

I was defending the UK police (as a whole) against the rhetoric and hate they face on reddit. There was a multi-comment exchange I had with someone that began reasonably, but they soon went on to ignore every counterpoint I made to them in reply, every question I asked them, every request to back up the claims they made, and basically everything I said (but also insisted that I was the one ignoring them).

It soon devolved further and further into ad hominem and other pettiness until eventually they began to allude that I was a neo-nazi sympathiser, which I absolutely am not, and which I would have expected to be clear in my comments to them. They even went so far as to look through my history which isn’t very long, and suggested that my family who suffered in the holocaust would spit on me.

I hate the hypocrisy. I hate to see the awful damage some of these people spread in their rhetoric against hundreds of thousands of people just by being so brainwashed and uncritical as to think the actions of a small minoroty represents the behaviour of the whole; and I hate how the irony of them accusing the police of something they themselves do is utterly lost. I hate that they will appeal to virtue when they attack the police but then one of those people says something like that to me. It’s like everybody is blind!

The police here in the UK have always been there when I have needed them, and everyone whom I have ever known who has worked for the UK police in some capacity has been as stand-up as they come. Truly wonderful people.
