I have some Jewish friends who are African, Moroccan, and Asian. Kind of afraid to ask, but why do they sometimes get people questioning if they’re really Jewish?

I’m Jewish, and most of my family is from Europe. We’re conservative, though my dad is more orthodox. He doesn’t see them as less Jewish. They aren’t converts, either. I know there are some, a small set of people, who don’t like or accept converts. Sometimes people at shul will talking behind their backs (they’re not good at gossip, because we can hear them). I’ve seen them get weird questions. We mostly go to Hillel, where this doesn’t really happen.

Do they not understand there we’re everywhere? Plenty come from unstable countries to escape persecution and whatnot. So what’s up with that?
