I found out I’m half Jewish, I would love some information.

Hello,

Like I said, I found out a year ago that I’m half Jewish. My mother is 100% (which I wasn’t aware, but my father wasn’t Jewish, so she must be for me to be 51% according to 23&me)

I have a few questions. I’ve been reading the Torah, and have been trying to observe in a more traditional sense.

I haven’t joined a Synagogue yet, but am looking into it. The more I learn and read, the more I’m resonating with Judaism.

My grandmother (by adoption) was Jewish as well, and we would celebrate some holidays (Hanukkah & Passover) although she wasn’t particularly observant.

I’ve wanted to start wearing a Kippah / Tzittzit, but my friend has advised against me doing so, as it might offend.

Am I officially Jewish once I join a congregation? Should I study more and learn before wearing the religious dress?

I’ve been having difficulty getting in touch with my local Chabad, and have thought about joining another denomination(?)

I’m really looking for some advice, as I’m looking to start to be observant, I’ve started recently to keep kosher & read my Torah every night.

Can someone please point me in the right direction? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
