My girlfriend is not Jewish, but I am, same as my parents. When I was a child I converted and was raised Jewish, and I want the same for my children. My girlfriend is having a hard time understanding why they wouldn’t be considered Jewish at birth by Halacha. How do I explain this easily, given the fact that I don’t really understand why this is? I always just accepted it and never questioned it, so I don’t have a good explanation, but I’m sure there is one.
