How do Samaritans view Judaism? (AMA)

So I’m sure many of you might have wondered, how do Samaritans view Judaism and what is our relationship to our Jewish brothers?

By studying history we see that nations always split up, beliefs always split, and kingdoms too, so the Israelites were not immune to this and they split to Judah and Samaria due to different conflicts.

Well, Samaritans do not see the Jewish people anything less than part of the children of Israel (עם ישראל), together we have kept a tradition that changed the world for more than 4000 years, it’s easy to take for granted the things we and our ancestors went through to keep the mission of HaShem going.

We believe that עם ישראל is a light to all the nations, we can see this in many ways, one of them being the number of Jewish people who got the Noble prize compared to other nations.

We believe that the honor of being from Bnei Israel doesn’t come from being a superior race or ethnicity, but rather, having a very strong passion and love for Hashem and having an incredible sense of belonging to a big family of millions who shared the same goal.

We went out of slavery together, and barley survived through many massacres, against tens of nations who don’t exist anymore today…

As Samaritans we share the same story and beliefs with our Jewish brothers, the belief in the right to live in freedom and end slavery, and the belief in the right to live peacefully in the Holy Land (ארץ הקדושה).

We believe that what was left of us after tens of massacres from more than 1.2 million to come from the Tribes of Levi and the two sons of Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh, lowest population was probably around 1919 Of about 150. Today we are about 820, consisting of 5 big families.

even though we are a very small community today, we do believe that we have kept crucial part of the history of the Israelites, few of them being the ancient Hebrew, and the different traditions that we’ve kept. We believe that us and the Jewish people integrate each other in beautiful ways.
