I know there’s a lot of recent discussion about the halakha of marijuana. However cannabis has been used as a drug for thousands of years, including in places that have historically had large Jewish populations such as the Ottoman Empire. Do we know if Jews prior to recent history ever smoked marijuana or hashish? Did historical rabbis ever rule on whether it was allowed?
