Hello from Sarajevo ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Hello from Sarajevo 🇧🇦

Today I visited our Jewish cemetery in Sarajevo. This cemetery is very old and one of the biggest in Europe. Jews in Sarajevo are mostly Sephardic Jews and they made a big contribution to the city and Bosnia as a whole. A little fun fact is that a man born in Sarajevo inspired Theodor Herzl about his work (Rabbi Judah Alkalai). This cemetery was hardly damaged in the last Bosnian war and Siege of Sarajevo (it was actually a battle line) and after the war was full of landmines. Luckely, this cemetery is clean of mines now, restored how much was possible and open for visitors. A bosnian muslim family takes care of the cemetery. Btw. In our National musem we keep the Hagadah from Sarajevo which is from (as far as I know) 16th century. This amazing book had many challenges outlived (saved from the Nazis and other collaboratores) and in the last war as well. I and Bosnians are very proud that we kept the Hagadah in life. I wish you peace and all the best my friends. โค๏ธ
