Hannukah’s Lights and Winter Darkness?

As the days get shorter in the Winter cooking hearty dishes and lighting lights/candles can…help.

Lighting the Menorah was obviously celebrates Jew’s triumph in continuing their traditions despite the attempts societies made to squelch our traditions. But Hannukah is called the “Festival of Lights”.

So does the lighting of the Menorah have anything to do with the changes of seasons and coping with the darkness/dreariness of winter? Did these festivities help people cope with challenges during difficult winter farming seasons in ancient times?
