Hannukah 5784 Megathread #2

This is the first of a handful of megathreads over the next couple weeks before Janucá is upon us.

This is NOT in any way meant to limit the number of otherwise Hannuccah-related posts standing alone on the sub as we approach this most oily week.

However, wherever, and with whomever you’re going to light the menorah, you certainly won’t be alone for this most revolutionary time of our year. Ask questions and share ideas here to help your fellow Jews the world over spin, sing, and celebrate!

Hanoukka starts on the evening of Thursday, 07 December and runs through Friday, 15 December. On haLuakh haIvri (the Hebrew Calendar), it’s from 25 Kislev to 3 Tevet. Because of Rosh Hashana math, this year is a khaser year, which means Kislev has just 29 days instead of the usual 30.

Hag haUrim (Festival of Lights) celebrates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem during the Maccabean Rebellion against the Seleucid Empire. They had to wait a whole week for a new shipment of frying pans to arrive!

Some resources to further introduce the holiday:

There are many, many resources about Chanuca out there. If you have any to add to this list, please share below.

Posts from last year:

  1. One
  2. Two
  3. Three

You can find previous megathreads and other sources through those links and by searching the sub.

And of course, the havura of Reddit is here for you this Channoukkah season. You are not alone this year. We are all in this together, and will be together again next year, in Jerusalem.

חנוכה שמח!
