Hannukah 5783 Megathread #3

This is the megathread for the week of Khanike! Share photos of your menorah, latkets and sufganiot and duck, parties, and those intense games of dreidl we all know rival even the best games of Monopoly!

This is NOT in any way meant to limit the number of Channoukkah-related posts standing alone on the sub as we approach this enlightening week.

However, wherever, and with whomever you’re going to celebrate, you certainly won’t be alone for this most oily time of our year. Ask questions and share ideas here to help your fellow Jews the world over spin sivivon and gorge themselves on fried potatoes and sugary dough (with or without fruit filling).

Janucá starts on the evening of Sunday, 18 December and runs through Monday, 26 December. On haLuakh haIvri (the Hebrew Calendar), it’s from 25 Kislev to 2 Tevet.

Hag haUrim (Festival of Lights) celebrates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem during the Maccabean Rebellion (not these Maccabees) against the Seleucid Empire. They had to wait a whole week for a new shipment of oily goodness (aka oil) to arrive to get lit.

Some resources to further introduce the holiday:

These links were from a quick consultation with Rav Google (and just knowing some good resources). There are many, many resources about Hanoukka out there. If you have any to add to this list, please share below.

And of course, the havura of Reddit is here for you this Hanucka season. You are not alone this year. We are all in this together, and will be together again next year, in Jerusalem.

חנוכה שמח!
