Had this one guy recently say “ah, yes- ‘The Talmud’… honestly a great source for people of all faiths to learn from!” I was feeling feisty and said “actually, no- ‘studying’ Jewish texts outside of a a Jewish framework with no Jewish background knowledge leads to huge misinterpretations and sometimes these misinterpretations are weaponized by antisemites.” I tried explaining how there’s layer upon layer of citations and discourse and context and not really meant for him. He looked at me like I was so rude but???? Can non-Jews please just find something better to do? I mean, people are free to read what they want. But they approach it sometimes with this… Sticky-fingered sense of entitlement, if that makes sense.
