I know it’s forbidden for a woman to make herself infertile. I want to get a hysterectomy later in life. I have PCOS and endometriosis, I have to take medication to stop my period because it’s extremely painful. I throw up, pass out, and it lasts 20ish days, only coming every two months. I don’t want to have to take medication my entire life, it’s expensive and inconvenient, and long term affects haven’t been researched. Would getting a hysterectomy so that I no longer have a menstrual cycle break the law of a woman making herself infertile? I know it’s more severe for men making themselves infertile, but that it applies to women too. To be fair, I’m almost completely infertile. The chance of me getting pregnant is almost none with PCOS and endometriosis, unless I did something like IVF, and even then the success rate is only about 50-60%. My question is, how severe would it be if I got a hysterectomy for medical reasons in terms of Halacha?
Also, I’m sorry if this sounds like a dumb question. My mother was Jewish, but she passed when I was young, so I have to teach myself most of this stuff.
