Gift for potential member brunch with Rabbi?

We’re “Synagogue shopping” and after attending a function we’ve been invited to a “potential new member brunch” at the Rabbi’s house.

Is it customary to bring a gift to something like this? We don’t want to bring one and be the only ones to do it. That strikes me as bad form, making the others look negligent.

I was thinking just have a check with a donation to the Synagogue if people do bring gifts (who doesn’t like cash?) just to be safe. Is that inappropriate?
