For those who chose the orthodox route, how did you manage the beginning of your journey?

I’ve been going to my local shul for a bit now, and I am not sure what the next step is. I don’t want to annoy the rabbi, but I want to have a clearer picture of where I am. The last time I spoke to the rabbi, he told me that true Jewish understanding is developed through interactions with other members, and is far more important than a lesson plan. I am not sure how to emphasize and reiterate my interest without sounding like I am trying to rush the process.
