Exodus 22:18-19 says “Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.” What does it mean ?

This injunction has been used in the past to justify witch hunting. I have herad some rabbis saying that witch = poisoner. Other Jews read it as ” do not let anyone MAKE A LIVING out of this stuff”. I think in the past some Jews did believe in real-life witches and maybe some still do ( it is more common than you think, as a belief, also in the West).
