"Every Jew is important to God"

Just started reading Parashas Bamidbar last night and was very touched by Ramban’s commentary (from the Artscroll Stone Chumash) on the occasion of the counting of every Jew. It was a sign of God’s great love for Israel. And after many lives lost, there was a need to recount every Jew.

Despite God’s love for Israel as a nation, a community, this week’s parsha shows that God loves Jews individually. “Every Jew is important to God.”

And Moshe and Aaron would bless and pray for each person individually, “to be counted as an individual of personal worth”.

What a comforting message in this shitty world and shitty life many people live in now.
