Does Judaism have a concept of God "calling" an individual to a certain path?

In my liberal Christian upbringing I was taught that God “calls” on people to follow a particular path. This was often discussed in the context of “being called to the priesthood”, meaning that a person felt that God wanted them to become a priest. However, this could be used in other ways, such as my mother believing that I am a person who is “called” to speak out about social justice, because I have been involved in various political movements that I feel passionate about.

I’m just curious if Judaism has a similar understanding of how God works in human lives? My guess is not, but I wanted to ask, particularly because I am rather critical of this concept and believe it does harm to individuals.

Just realized I’m posting when shabbat is just about to start but I’m fine with waiting for answers.
