Do you feel safe wearing the Star of David / other Jewish symbols

I’ve been debating on getting a Star of David necklace, but feel hesitant due to the potential comments / hate I could get.

My girlfriend wears a Star of David necklace as well as a Hebrew necklace of her name. She hasn’t experienced any hate and will also tuck in the necklaces if she’s somewhere she may not feel safe embracing her Judaism.

I’m wondering the general consensus on this. We live in New York so it is more accepting than some other places, but we do often travel a lot so I do not know how most will perceive the jewelry.
