do curses still exist today according to judaism?

i know the concept of curses being placed actually happened often in biblical times. i’m honestly not sure what that would’ve entailed, like would curses be placed on a person in a very specific way? or could it apply in a broader sense to physical places, objects, etc. ultimately, i just want to know if curses still exist today and if so, what exactly are they? how are they different or similar from curses that were placed in biblical times?

also, i don’t know if this is similar or completely different from the concept of mazal – or lack thereof – in judaism.
