Deuteronomy 32 8-9

When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he divided mankind, he fixed the borders of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God. But the Lord’s portion is his people, Jacob his allotted heritage. Deuteronomy 32:8‭-‬9 ESV

Bear with me, as I’m not Jewish nor very well versed in the Torah. But I have been thinking about this verse for about a year now, trying to make sense of it. Some translations read El (or El Elyon) in place of the Most High, or with it. A lot of people that are trying to disprove either Christianity or Judaism or both will say this verse points to the early polytheistic roots of Judaism, El/the Most High being the chief God above Yahweh/YHWH. Could it be possible within this Scripture, that they are one and the same? How could He receive an inheritance/allotment from Himself? Is it a problem if the writers of the Torah did have somewhat polytheistic ideas? Forgive me if I’m going out of bounds with this post, I figured this would be the sub with the most knowledge on the Torah. Thank you.
