Dating a Jewish Man as a non-Jew, wanting to learn about comfort foods**

Okay so I (21F) am a non-Jewish woman, and I have been dating a Jewish man (21M) for roughly 10 months now. Things are starting to get serious and we are spending a lot of time together. A few months into our relationship, he lost both his mother and grandmother within a few weeks of each other and is understandably still grieving. On top of that, he and I are both out-of-state college students, I know that he has been feeling more homesick lately, and I want to comfort him. I think that the best way to do that would be to learn a few Jewish recipes, but I am not sure where to start. I am still learning Kosher laws, and I want to learn more about traditional Jewish foods, but I am not sure what staple recipes I should add to my arsenal.

So my question is: What recipes are a staple in Jewish Cuisine? What foods remind you of childhood?
